St. Michael the Archangel Parish
Years ago, I discovered God’s self-description in Scripture: “[I AM]… God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and fidelity…” (Exodus 34:6). That verse pierced my heart, especially the steadfast love part, and from then on my ministry became a mission to help people know how deep and steady is God’s love for them. That’s why I love my ministry. It is a graced and meaningful opportunity. Every interaction, formal or fun, has the same underlying potential for experiencing as well as conveying God’s love.
What do I do in ministry? I am a pastoral assistant in a parish where I coordinate three Adult Faith Formation programs. First, I recruit, conduct formation sessions, and schedule over 100 Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. Secondly, I coordinate the formation program for parents seeking Baptism for their infants. Lastly, I conduct Scripture studies twice weekly for large groups of parishioners who are interested in learning more about the Bible and how to be nourished by it in our conflicted world. We especially focus on Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer as means of listening to and worshiping God.
All my previous ministries in education, administration, and seminary teaching of Sacred Scripture have become part of my journey to this present ministry. My rural upbringing planted in me a desire for the quiet and solitude of nature and the desire to pray. I love music, reading, walking, and time with good friends–all ingredients for a happy and holy ministry for our Good God.
