Profiles in Ministry – Sr. Maureen Spillane

Over the years as a Sister of Notre Dame, God has called me to various ministries: teacher, principal, pastoral minister and community leadership. Presently I am a Director of Formation for our Temporary Professed Sisters and a Spiritual Director for those seeking to deepen their relationship with God. I have loved and continue to love where ever God has called me.

Since being asked to be a Formation Director, I have had the privilege of walking with our new members, helping them study the history of our Congregation to gain a greater understanding of living the vows of consecrated celibacy, poverty and obedience, and helping them to continue to discern their call to be a Sister of Notre Dame.

What I especially love about formation and being a spiritual director is sharing in people’s lives, sharing their sorrow and joys and walking with them as they seek to discern God’s will for them or helping them to come to know how much God loves them. I, too, grow through these ministry experiences.

Our charism of proclaiming God’s goodness and His provident care can easily be woven into my ministries. I am so blessed to be able to join other formation directors and new members in celebrating the goodness of God. Being part of a National Formation Team, a Vocation Formation Team and a Regional Formation group all allow me to witness God’s love and His provident care for us.

The motto that I have always lived by is: “Live the gospel and if necessary use words.”
St.  Francis of Assisi
