Twenty employees of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, were nominated by their peers for service and leadership awards that were presented at the 18th Annual St. Elizabeth of Hungary celebration on November 17, 2017. Sister Kathleen Ryan, SND, director of the Diocesan Office of Social Action, received the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Award, the highest award given by Catholic Charities.
The event traditionally takes place on or near St. Elizabeth’s feast day, which is November 17. Bishop Nelson Perez celebrated Mass at Sagrada Familia Parish in Cleveland. Following the mass, a reception was held at St. Augustine Manor. Patrick Gareau, president and CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, announced the names of all nominees before Bishop Perez presented the awards. “We congratulate all those individuals who have been recognized for their dedication and contribution to Catholic Charities and the persons we serve,” Gareau said.
At the reception, Diane Zbasnik, director of the Catholic Commission of Summit County, presented the bishop with a “Peace Preserve” artwork made by attendees at the recent peace symposium at John Carroll University.
