A Lasting Tribute: Sister Madeline Mary Columbro, SND 1934–2018

Our dear Sister Madeline (formerly Sister Mary Electa) was welcomed into eternal life on Friday evening, April 13, at 6:45 p.m. Sister was a consummate educator, focused on professional competence always with her students’ best interests at heart. She lived her love of music often pondering, “God gave us music that we might pray without words.”

The visitation will be on Thursday, April 19, from 1:30-4:45 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00. The burial will be private on Friday, April 20.

May Sister Madeline rejoice among the heavenly choirs as she beholds her God face to face!

Sister Madeline was a unique combination of talent, genius, and wit. My best friends and I were in her choir at Notre Dame College in the mid ’70s. She was extremely approachable and genuine. Will miss her.

I am so sad to hear about the death of Sr. Madeline. When I was in Chardon, she was so kind to me reading my papers and giving good comments. Furthermore, she loved so much my niece, Caritas who played organ in University and visited me at that time, that she never forgot her warm heart. When my niece heard of her death yesterday, she couldn’t stop her crying. I offer my prayers for her, and we will continue to remember her during Mass and our prayers. May God grant her eternal peace with our prayers. Sister Marie Paulita, SND from Korea.

In Remembrance of Sister Madeline…Dearest “Aunt Mickey”

I will always remember her musical genius, patient educational mentoring, spiritual guidance, and quiet sense of humor. How did we so quickly run out of time? The universe gained an eternally bright star to be forever remembered with love and prayers.

Sr. Madeline pocessed the best of all desirable traits. She was wise, witty, generous, compassionate, and expected nothing less than the best from her students. I only recently learned of her death, but there has never been a day since I graduated from NDC ’79 that I haven’t thought of her at least once. RIP, my friend and mentor.
