In 1999, Sister Melannie Svoboda asked me to join the secretarial staff as her administrative secretary. Nineteen years and three provincial administrations later, I am still carrying out this ministry of service to the provincial superior and, by extension, to all the sisters of the province. For example, I might look through the early Annals from a school or parish to find a quote or story to include in an anniversary message. Since I taught high school English for many years, editing and proofreading are easy, and I am good at synthesizing and summarizing material.
I enjoy working behind the scenes to prepare for province events, making travel arrangements, or checking that all the “details of the details” are taken care of. I’m also a member of St. Helen’s Prayer Shawl group and a “prayer sister” for several sisters in various ministries. I volunteer with the Leprechaun Foundation, a local non-profit that grants wishes to terminally and chronically ill children. Each day’s work is different, but God’s goodness and provident care are always with me, to count on and to share with everyone I meet.
