Sister Mary Patricia Pasek, SND; 1930–2019

Our dear Sister Mary Patricia (formerly Sister Mary John Therese) went home to God on Sunday evening, June 2, at 6:45 p.m. As a cancer survivor, Sister was a support to others; as a faithful religious, she loved her community and was a selfless presence to all. The wake will be on Monday, June 10, from 2–4:45 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00. May Sister Mary Patricia know joy and peace in the presence of our good and loving God for all eternity!

I an saddened by the news of SM Patricia’s passing. Her commanding presence gave way to a gentle soul and a heart of gold. From the halls of NDA to the halls of the Provincial House, she had a profound impact on me. I will hold my memories of her close to me. The angels and the saints have welcomed her with open arms. She will certainly be at peace, but the resting part? I’m not so sure. She will find something to do!
Thank You Sister Mary Patricia for teaching and showing me the goodness of God.

Beautiful and heartfelt…you are so right. We first year teachers at NDA when you were a freshman were guided and protected by John Therese. She was ok with you girls – but having all beginning teachers was her greatest concern.
      Thanks, Diana, for your sharing.

Thanks for sharing such beautiful words.. We could never begin to express our feelings the way in which you did. Sister Patricia was my mother-in-law’s first cousin and the very individual you describe is the individual we knew in our family. We shall forever miss Sr. M. Patricia’s kindness and love which she showed to everyone. Whether it was her company on trips, her attendance at family reunions or holiday luncheons, a happen chance meeting at Marc’s, or having lunch with her at the Provincial House, our times together will be missed. We chuckled at the thought of her finding something to do in heaven, because it is so very true of Sister. She is certainly at peace!

You are so right, Diana! A commanding presence, a gentle spirit and a heart of gold certainly describe Patricia. Sister was my postulant director so she introduced my group and I to SND life. She was a patient guide who dealt with our homesickness by leading us through the woods for a nature walk, taking us to the garden to pick tomatoes, and when we all stood at her door telling her it was time for us to go home, she handed each of us a toothbrush and told us to head out and wash the water tower. Then with a telling smile and a twinkle in her eye she gave us a copy of St. Ignatius’ prayer that begins, “Teach me to be generous.” Needless to say, we all stayed that night. But, we were not quite finished with her. Having become novices and then temporary professed, we welcomed Sr. Patricia back into our lives again as she helped us to prepare for final vows. In more recent years, Sister was snapping pictures at all sorts of events. It was always wonderful to receive an envelope with a picture that she had taken. I had the honor of spending Good Friday afternoon with her. I will treasure that last conversation we had. Thank you, Patricia!

The end of her Funeral homily emphasized well: her welcoming presence, the presence of Christ (is the way it struck me)! She lived our “hospitality”, inviting even “outsiders” to feel at home. Thank you, Sister!
