An Open Letter on Human Trafficking: Freedom Needs Truth

An Open Letter on Human Trafficking: Freedom Needs Truth

The Sisters of Notre Dame throughout the United States have worked for many years  to raise awareness, provide direct service and promote policies to end human trafficking.  We have worked in a bipartisan manner with political leaders, law enforcement officials, educators, service providers and advocates to address the underlying root causes of human trafficking.  Our goal has been to establish policies to end human trafficking. We know the horrific impact on the victims from first hand experiences many sisters have had while assisting trafficked victim, either through direct service or working together on programs to educate the public.

An open letter to Candidates, the Media, Political Parties, and Policymakers, signed by over 100 organizations, including the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), asks the recipients to promote the truth about the reality of trafficking and acknowledge the strong bipartisan efforts that have been made over the years to end trafficking.  Trafficking should not be made into a political issue; it is a life issue.
